NEW FOR 2014:
- All-new model.
Chevrolet knows that the half-ton truck market is an unforgiving place. Customers demand a vehicle that works hard, but also looks good, is comfortable, and is built to last. It also knows that a familiar product is a good thing. In return, pickup owners are some of the most loyal on the planet - and that’s part of the reason why the all-new Silverado looks more like a mid-cycle refresh than an all-new model. But rest assured, this is Chevrolet’s most innovative and advanced pickup truck to date.
Refinement, durability, and efficiency were all top priorities when Chevy designed the new Silverado. Attention to the truck’s aerodynamic profile has made it significantly more efficient on the highway, while selective use of lightweight materials in its construction helped it trim off as much as 200 lbs compared to the outgoing model. Electric power steering and revised suspensions improve roadholding and give it a much more precise feel on the road.
Under the Silverado’s aluminum hood is an all-new engine lineup that includes a 4.3-litre V6, a 5.3-litre V8, and a 6.2-litre V8. Impressively, all have direct fuel injection and cylinder deactivation to lighten the fuel burden. Six-speed automatics are featured across the board, and buyers can choose between two and four-wheel drive.
One of the most frequently criticized aspects of the old Silverado was its cabin; the new one is real step forward. The dramatic new design is visibly upright, but it’s modern and nicely finished with large knobs and straightforward ergonomics. Soft-touch plastics are featured extensively, and up-level models feature plenty of modern tech ranging from Chevy’s latest MyLink touchscreen infotainment system to a vibrating safety seat that buzzes if the lane departure or forward collision warning systems are activated.
The Silverado is available in four trims: WT (1WT, 2WT), LT (1LT, 2LT), and LTZ (1LZ, 2LZ), and High Country.
